Special Advisor of Schools Technology

Jason Levy is the NYCDOE's Special Advisor for Schools Technology for the Division of Instructional and Information Technology at the NYC Department of Educatiuon. Jason advises NYC superintendents and principals on building a vision and strategic action plans for school technology.


Jason spent the past three years at DIIT running a small start-up team tasked with helping schools succeed with technology. Jason led the creation of the DOE’s annual School Technology Summit and launched The Sandbox, a website with ed/tech resources. His team also established an official technology single-point-of-contact (SPOC) role for all schools.


Prior to DIIT, Jason served for seven years as principal at IS 339, a 6th-8th Bronx middle school with a 1:1 laptop program. IS 339 was one of the first NYCDOE schools to use Google Apps and annually hosted hundreds of educators during technology open houses. IS 339 was featured as part of Frontline's Digital Nation on PBS, and Jason presented with colleagues at numerous national conferences. His school was featured in James Lerman’s book, Retool Your School.
